Advocacy

JVMS advocates for policies that protect and advance veterinary medicine.

As 2025 concludes, the FVMA has shared several critical legislative updates for Florida veterinary professionals. Key highlights include:

*   **Compounded Medications:** Successful advocacy led to the removal of restrictions on dispensing compounded medications purchased for office use, effective late December 2025.
*   **Xylazine Reclassification:** Secured a temporary veterinary exemption through June 2026, allowing continued medical use while it is classified as a Schedule 1 substance.
*   **Legislative Advocacy:** The FVMA is opposing HB 89 (Prescription Disclosure Act) and the potential return of VPA legislation, while supporting SB 290, which includes a $25,000 loan repayment program for food-animal veterinarians.
*   **Professional Integrity:** The association remains committed to opposing deregulation and ensuring only licensed veterinarians perform major surgeries.
